International Study Group on Ethnomathematics

The International Study Group on Ethnomathematics was founded in 1985 under the guidance of the Brazilian mathematician Ubiratan D'Ambrosio and the U.S. mathematics educators Gloria Gilmer, Rick Scott and Gil Cuevas. Since that time it has sponsored programs and business meetings at the annual conferences of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (U.S.A.) and at the International Congress of Mathematics Education. In 1990 ISGEm became an affiliate of the U.S. National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. ISGEm publishes two newsletters annually.
